In a landmark development for India’s digital infrastructure that Sify Technologies has officially opened its second data center campus in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The building is found in the SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri, is well equipped and fully integrated to deal with the increasing need for advanced information technologies, which includes artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. This has been a significant move for Sify, which has been designing its course to support digital-first enterprises and create a significant role for the improvement of the cloud and data center industry in India.
This new campus, which has been named Chennai 02, will be directing its operations in helping industries that are involved in areas such as strong computing resources and data storage. Thus, Sify builds not only the regional capacity but also contributes to India’s goal of being a digital power. The site was officially launched by Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, stating that the establishment of this site makes the state one of the best destinations for IT infrastructure and investment.

A Strategic Investment in Tamil Nadu’s Tech Landscape

Chennai 02 is a huge investment towards forming new data centers in the Tamil Nadu region that contributes to the growth of the technology industry. Even in the initial stage that covers the commissioning of Tower B only, it involved an initial investment of ₹1,882 crore (USD 221 million). The total investment for the whole campus is considered to be approximately ₹10,000 crore (about $1.1 billion) in the long run. This is in line with Sify’s vision to transform digital features throughout the country and create a platform of a new generation centre that would support large data demands.
The Industries Minister, T.R.B Rajaa also identified the importance of this project, which is now the first data center in India to receive NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center certification. This certification makes sure that the features are fully developed to support advanced AI workloads and sophisticated data analytics. The acknowledgement not only confirms the technical excellence of the features but also highlights it as a preferred choice to address the demands of machine learning, AI training, and real-time data inference organizations that operate in the fastly progressing segment of the market.

Cutting-Edge Features and Capabilities

The campus is planned to be developed in three stages and at full capacity, will provide an amount of IT power greater than 130MW. Now, Tower B is in operation and has 26MW installed capacity for future growth and more will be developed. This high scalability is very important to be able to cater to the growing market of CSPs, hyperscalers and organizations especially for their large-scale data-intensive applications.

One notable highlight that includes its ability to support high-density computing up to 130 kW/ rack, or density high computing, which is significant for AI, big data, and scientific computing. Also, the design of Sify has prioritized sustainability as one of its main goals, and objectives have been aligned to the centre. The current percentage of power from renewable sources used by the data center is 60%. The company has stated its ambition to increase this share to 80–90% soon, reinforcing its commitment to building green, environmentally responsible infrastructure.
Another major innovation is the open cable landing station within the campus—an uncommon feature for Indian data centers. The station offers space for four subsea cables and delivers unprecedented data transmission capabilities, supporting speeds up to 2 petabytes per second. This makes the data center a highly connected and low-latency hub, ideal for clients that demand both speed and reliability in data movement across continents.

Economic and Employment Impact

While the Chennai 02 data center will no doubt be a technical game-changer, its economic contributions are equally noteworthy. Sify expects this facility to generate around 10,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, throughout its development. This includes opportunities in IT services, facility management, logistics, and other support functions, providing a considerable boost to the local job market and regional economy.

The investment will support in achieving another long-term goal of Tamil Nadu, that is to become a digital innovation center in the global market. High-tech services like artificial intelligence will be integrated, along with cloud computing services based on the facility will also help to create a small business and may act as a magnet for tech IT investments from all over the world. As the number of international companies interested in having a base in India increases, many will use Sify’s Chennai 02 to see what represents the best-practice business data centers.

Aligning with National Digital Goals

Sify’s expansion in Chennai is part of a larger, ambitious roadmap aimed at reinforcing India’s overall digital infrastructure.
The company has stated that it will spend $5 billion of the money towards constructing new generation data centers and integrating other AI-specific operational features in the country. This long-term plan involves plans of setting up 20 relatively smaller AI inference centers in Tier II and Tier III cities to make the digital infrastructure more extensive and distributed.
This broader national footprint ensures that not just metros but also secondary cities benefit from robust data infrastructure. In this way, Cloud and AI capabilities remain closer to the end-users in various geographical locations that Sify has a connection with and that also avoid latency in data processing that are important in today’s digital field. For example, the Chennai 02 data center fits smoothly with this vision, being delivered with existing facilities within Mumbai and Noida, and represents a regional powerhouse for high-demand capacity digital services.

Future Outlook

With the Chennai 02 Subsidiary, Sify Technologies Ltd is establishing its position as one of the key of infrastructural development for the New global era India. Virtualization technologies, environmental friendliness, and connectivity options allow classifying the facility as a perfect partner for hyperscalers, governmental agencies, and different enterprises of various profiles, including the financial sector, healthcare systems, e-commerce, and manufacturing etc.
Especially as the AI and other digital services are advancing services provided by Sify do not get left behind. Chennai 02 is not just a facility, it is much more; it is the readiness of the nation to emerge as the leader of the digital age. Thus, Sify has ensured a systematic strategy focusing on innovation and Inclusive growth the idea of sustainability for the betterment of business and society.
