NorthC has not publicly acquired six data centers from Colt Data Centre Services during the period from April 2025 up to this writing. NorthC continues its European expansion by pursuing strategic acquisitions and making data center partnerships while avoiding public acquisitions of Colt Data Center Services‘ facilities. In 2022, NorthC created its Swiss presence by obtaining the data center business operations of Swiss Netrics, which served as its initial entrance into Switzerland. The takeover of the NorthC data center took place with three halls, of which two are in Münchenstein near Basel and the third one is in Biel, covering a total built-up area of 13,000 sqm and more than 7.5 MW of installed capacity that allowed for expansion possibilities.
NorthC proceeded with Swiss operations growth in 2023 by obtaining a data center facility in Winterthur, which is located near Zurich, from Kyndryl. The data center facility provides 1.8 MW of IT capacity but has available space for expansion. Kyndryl Switzerland GmbH has chosen NorthC as its data services provider through a Managed Service Agreement to host its operations in the facility. Evidence shows that NorthC did not buy any data centers from Colt Data Centre Services, but AtlasEdge conducted the acquisition of twelve facilities during 2021. The company adopted this move as part of its initiative to construct and expand hyperscale data center facilities. The most reliable updates about NorthC’s acquisition deals and business cooperations require monitoring news from official NorthC statements alongside respected industry media outlets.
Expansion in the Netherlands and Germany
The NorthC, a European company, has aimed at the expansion of data centers in the future, namely in Frankfurt by 2025 and in Berlin by 2026. The opportunity in Frankfurt is the second NorthC data center in this strategic area, as phase one of the facility is a 1.5 MW IT load that can be boosted to 10.5 MW. The Berlin establishment will begin at 3 MW for load purposes and has the potential to expand up to 8 MW.
As for the fast-growing requirements at NorthC, it means the scaling up of the IT capacity at existing data centers in Munich and Nutrenga, the construction of the new data center in Frankfurt, and further development of the new data center in Berlin. Almere, Rotterdam, Aalsmeer, and Eindhoven data center facilities will elevate IT load capacity to reach an 11 MW factor due to the growing need for high-quality IT services.
Acquisition of IP Exchange in Germany
NorthC has plans for further development in the next two fiscal years, 2025 and 2026, when it plans to invest in two new data centers in Frankfurt and Berlin. Having the Frankfurt market as a priority location for data centers, phase 1 will produce 1.5 MW of IT load and up to 10.5 MW. Initially, it is expected to have an IT load of about 3 MW with the potential of increasing up to 8 MW.
Besides these new locations, NorthC will grow its current sites close to Munich and Nuremberg, Germany, in 2025. In the Netherlands, expansion of incremental 11 MW of IT load capacity will systematically be distributed across the data centers in the Almere, Rotterdam, Aalsmeer, and Eindhoven areas to cater for the continuous demands of high-quality IT investments.
Growth in Switzerland with Fourth Data Center
The specifics about the acquisition were not disclosed, but what can be said is that NorthC took a step forward with the plan of currently experiencing its growth, especially since it has recently rented a data center in Winterthur near Zurich. This meant that the total number of data centers NorthC had in Switzerland increased to four. Currently, the Winterthur data center has an IT load of 1,800 kW, but it has the potential for expansion.
Kyndryl Switzerland GmbH was the first to take up the Managed Service Agreement for the colocation services at the Winterthur data center. This site is one of the central communication centers, given the fact that a vast majority of the major carriers in the communications sector are sited at this facility.
In 2021, NorthC collaborated with Colt Technology Services to ensure that it had connectivity services across the world. This way, customers of both companies have a unique possibility to extend their infrastructures to the Colt IQ Network as well as to the NorthC footprint. It also allows enterprises to build their business capabilities for digital transformation by getting fast and versatile connectivity to various leading cloud service providers.
It means that it helps NorthC’s customers to connect their infrastructure to NorthC’s data centers in an efficient way in the Netherlands, combined with the complete portfolio of services from another type of service that can be obtained through Colt, especially through SDN such as Colt On Demand services.
Sustainability Initiatives and Future Plans
NorthC continues to be a very sustainability-oriented company, spending large dollars on green solutions like hydrogen-based emergency power and residue-heat recovery. To achieve this, the company seeks to capitalize on the increasing need of businesses across the continent for efficient and green IT and data center space.
As for further development, NorthC is to focus on creating new data centers and increasing the capacity of the existing ones. The emphasis on sustainability and local delivery structure also makes this firm capable of helping various businesses and government organizations in Europe to embrace digital solutions.
